Project Overview and Objective

On October 6, 2026, our engineering team conducted a comprehensive workshop trial on the Continuous Carbonization Furnace. The primary objective was to test operational stability, continuous feeding and discharge performance, syngas self-heating efficiency, and final biochar quality when processing high-density biomass pellets and RDF pellets under non-stop operating conditions.

As global demand grows for commercial biochar production and solid waste valorization, continuous rotary pyrolysis systems offer a highly efficient, non-stop solution for industrial processing.

Key Equipment Features and Operational Workflow

1. Automated Continuous Feeding System

Biomass and RDF pellets were loaded into the feed hopper and transported continuously into the furnace using an inclined belt conveyor. The sealed feeding inlet prevented air ingress, ensuring a stable anaerobic atmosphere inside the pyrolyzer.

2. Pyrolysis and Syngas Energy Recovery

Inside the sealed rotary drum, the feedstock underwent rapid high-temperature thermal decomposition. Combustible syngas released during pyrolysis was collected, filtered, and routed directly to the flare burners. The bright, steady flaring verified that self-generated syngas can be recycled to heat the furnace, significantly cutting external fuel costs.

3. Intelligent PLC Control

Operators monitored and adjusted drum rotation speed, internal heating temperatures, and feed rates in real time via the centralized PLC touchscreen cabinet to maintain consistent carbonization quality throughout the run.

4. Sealed Water-Cooled Continuous Discharge

The carbonized output passed through a water-cooled discharge screw, lowering the biochar temperature to safe handling levels before exiting the machine. The resulting carbon pellets were discharged continuously without producing smoke, dust, or ash collapse.

Trial Results and Performance Highlights

  • 100% Carbonization Conversion: The discharged biochar pellets retained high structural integrity, smooth surfaces, and uniform black coloration with zero unburnt material.

  • Syngas Self-Heating Efficiency: Recycled pyrolysis gas successfully fueled the heating loop, reducing operational fuel costs by up to 60%.

  • Non-Stop Continuous Operation: Verified 24/7 continuous processing capability for high-volume biomass pellet and RDF conversion projects.

  • Clean Workshop Environment: Closed multi-stage gas seals maintained a smoke-free and eco-friendly testing environment.

FAQ

Q: What makes a continuous carbonization furnace better than batch furnaces?

A: Continuous rotary carbonization furnaces operate non-stop without needing frequent cooling and reloading cycles. They process significantly higher volumes per day and reuse self-generated combustible syngas to dramatically lower fuel costs.

Q: What other materials can be processed in this continuous pyrolyzer?

A: Besides biomass pellets and RDF, the system efficiently handles wood chips, sawdust, rice husks, coconut shells, palm kernel shells, bamboo particles, and organic sludge pellets.
