Working Principle

One part of the system is a piston acting as a pump, with a mechanical force acting on a smaller cross-sectional area; the other part is a piston with a larger area, which generates a corresponding mechanical force. If the pump is separated from the cylinder, only small diameter pipes are required (easier to resist the pressure). When the pressure on the cylinder is released (the fluid returns to the reservoir), the force generated in the cylinder decreases to a low value (which is determined by the friction of the cylinder seal).
